Embracing growth

Embracing growth, by definition, is about developing our skills and staying open to change. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Embracing growth for me, is having your world turned upside down and still being able to see it as a learning opportunity.

My world has been shaken up three times in the past 2 years; but the knowledge I’ve gained is unquantifiable. It’s all because I’ve had the opportunity to work at PartnerHero.

I’ve had the chance to perform in 3 different support roles within the company as well as to collaborate internally with tasks like the office library. In all of them, I have grown and learned from the challenges I’ve endured. Challenges such as taking my critical thinking skills to a whole new level, learning how to be empathetic without saying “I’m sorry”, writing this blog or saying goodbye to people I deeply care about.

Please bear with me while I throw some examples of embracing growth your way.

Harry (YES! I’m a Potterhead) was surprisingly chosen as one of the four champions after Dumbledore read his name from the Goblet of Fire. Consequently, he got to his feet and stumbled slightly. He was stunned. He felt numb. He was surely dreaming. Everyone, including Harry, thought that he was not going to make it out alive. Yet, he still faced the challenge and won the Triwizard Tournament.

Let’s take another example, more personal this time. About a year ago, after 2 delicate surgeries, I became the sole financial provider for my family. This was something completely unexpected for me and I’m not going to lie, it’s been tough. Being in charge of the finances is definitely challenging. Creating a budget or standing in a supermarket aisle for 10 minutes deciding what rice to get. And let’s not forget that, whenever you have spare cash, the first thing that pops up in your head is: “Which payment did I miss?!”

My point is that, thanks to the experiences I’ve had at PartnerHero, I’ve been able not only to handle these difficult situations but also to actually develop myself. Not as elegantly as I had wished but if I had been apprehensive about these changes, I can’t imagine where we would be by now. By embracing growth, I’ve been able to mentally endure all the changes that came my way and I am sure that I will know how to endure the future ones as well.

I’ve learned that, if one wants to succeed, not only in his career but also in his personal life, one will need to embrace growth and all the changes that come with it.

There have been many times in my life when I was thrown into scenarios, where the odds were definitely not in my favor. How did I manage to stand up to the challenges? By picturing the glass-half-full and making sure to learn the lessons.

What we should remember is that there will always be times when we will face unexpected challenges and get hit by crises; whether it is about a life or death Harry Potter tournament or deciding what rice to buy. If and how we succeed will depend on our attitude towards the situation. One thing I can assure you is that in every single change, you can seize an opportunity to learn.

I know, I know, it’s super corny. Still, I’ve seen people crash and burn because of their fear of change. Attitude is everything here. Tackle change with a smile and a can-do attitude. Your brain is the strongest organ in your body. If you train it to never back down, you’ll defeat every single negative thought and all the setbacks that come with it.

Don’t let negativity hinder the process you’ve worked so hard on. Use the skills you’ve gained by embracing growth and staying open to change. I can’t promise that the next test will be easy to face but I do promise you that you will learn something valuable.
