We’re running a series of interviews at Partoo to present different profiles in the Tech team.

We want to share and learn more about the amazing people behind the Partoo Tech Team. Today we present the testimony of Clotilde Amar, Full Stack Developer.

Tell us about what you were doing before you joined Partoo

I went to an Engineering School for my studies and I specialised in Mechanical and Electronic engineering. After I finished my studies, I joined Safran, where I worked for over 6 years. I was a Software Development Engineer and Verifier: I ensured that software was meeting certain requirements.

After some time, I realised that, actually, I didn’t love what I was doing at Safran. What I did like was development, which was only a very small part of my job. So I decided to follow this and throw myself into it!

I taught myself Python through online courses, and I was practicing in my spare time. A recruitment agency introduced me to Partoo, which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for: a small company with a nice working environment. I went through the recruitment process and I knew I wanted to work at Partoo!

What is your team and role at Partoo?

For the past 3 years, I’ve been a Full Stack Developer in the Morty team, specialized in knowledge management of our application. In our team, we have a Product Manager, a Lead Developer and 2–3 Full Stack Developers.

Our day-to-day consists of developing new features, maintaining existing features, and code reviewing.

However, starting January 2022, I have switched teams and I’m now part of the Meeseeks team! We’re a brand new team and will be focused on optimising the internal tools of other teams at Partoo. For example, our Customer Care team carries out a lot of repetitive and manual tasks. We want to develop tools to optimize and improve these processes. I’ve been shadowing some members of the Care team to better understand the problems they’re facing and how we can help them.

I wanted to join this team because I loved the idea of working with our own teams and with people that I know!

What convinced you to join Partoo?

I liked the fact that Partoo was a small structure at the time. It was a close-knit environment and I liked knowing everyone in the company. 3 years later, we’re nearly 300 people and with this growth that we’ve experienced, it’s totally different than 3 years ago, but there’s still an amazing atmosphere at Partoo and in the Tech team. I’m still in the same company, but it feels like I’ve evolved with Partoo through its various phases.

A big part was the “feeling” with the people I met during the interview process. At the time, Thibault had started to place a lot of importance on small traders, and I really liked the idea of working on this.

Partoo also took a big risk in hiring me. I had never done web or front-end development before and Partoo was willing to train me on these aspects.

What do you like most about your job?

Honestly, I love to code, I find it fun!

I love working in a team, and it also makes me happy when I’m able to improve the quality of work processes for my colleagues.

I also really like the fact that I can work on things other than my day-to-day development job. For example, I’m taking care of the tool Notion (an all-in-one workspace for notes) and the knowledge management inside the Tech team. Partoo has also put in place some great projects which encourage inter-teams relationships and inclusiveness, including “Vie Ma Vie” (shadowing someone’s daily work from another team) and a Language Exchange.

We have a flexible environment: our ideas are taken into account, people have the freedom to move onto new positions and we own our career development path.

What has been your most exciting project since joining Partoo?

It was around 2 years ago when we worked on Google attributes. Jonàs (our current CTO) was the Lead Developer of my team at the time, and he actively included us in the technical strategy of the project. He delegated the design of the data models, which was a first for me for such a big project. It was a bit scary, but I learnt a lot and it was really fun to do it as a team. From a technical point of view, it was really interesting. Jonàs reviewed it and exposed the problems we could have, then guided us towards a more optimized solution. In the end, we finished with a nice, clean solution and we did that together!

If you could convince someone interested in joining the Tech team at Partoo, what would you say?

I would say the most important thing is that at Partoo, we work in an environment of trust. Each person can work on the things they are interested in and we have a good structure to support that. We are allowed to make mistakes (it’s normal and it’s the best way to learn!) and we work in a really comfortable work environment.

Apart from that, there are still a lot of things to put in place — the company is growing fast, ideas are taken into account, processes are being re-shaped. Exciting times ahead! So, it’s a good time to join us!
