Pillow Fight!

For best friends and families, there’s a very unusual and casual event usually held in Justin Herman Plaza. It’s unofficial and not totally permitted, however, Bay Area natives have been gathering for the event for over a decade. The origin of the first unofficial pillow fight is unknown, but that hasn’t got in the way of 1,000 participants having a fun (and totally free) time.

Single AcroYoga

While technically not a Valentine’s Day themed event, every 2nd Wednesday of the month is the official time for a (free) AcroYoga class held by Sports Basement, a sports wear shop in Berkeley. No, it’s not in the big city, but for singles this may be the perfect event for getting you out of your SF bubble. Beginners are welcome and no partner needed.

Dandelion Chocolate

Food brings people together, but there’s nothing like the intimate nature of chocolate. Head down Valencia in the Mission and visit this bean-to-bar chocolate factory, where you can view their thorough chocolate making process. Dandelion Chocolate also offers official tours, classes, and events, ranging from $5-$150 depending on what’s on the agenda. Their classes do get booked up months in advance, but if V-day is nothing but a date invented as a marketing tool, then you’ll be happy to visit any time of the year.
