Last year, I was diagnosed with Reflux. A common disease, but it took the GP a year to arrive at this conclusion and then referred me to a public hospital. After 6 months of waiting, I met the specialist. Then after another year and 2 months on the waiting list for a gastroscopy, I opted for a procedure at a private hospital(Only took a month from seeing the doctor to receive the results). The entire process was incredibly frustrating, which I mentioned in the last section of this post: ChatGPT in Healthcare. I shouldn’t have relied solely on the doctors; I should have conducted my own research as well. The gastroscopy results came back normal, so they successfully shielded someone who might waste public medical resources. Throughout this nearly three-year diagnosis process, I worried something bad might happen and elevated. As a timid patient, minor symptoms made me feel scared and utterly helpless. I believe many patients with more severe symptoms (though not severe enough to be prioritized at the front of the line) might be grappling with similar emotional turmoil.
