Facebook jumping into the [live]stream

Livestreaming has been a trendy topic and an increasingly prominent component of social, mobile and web channels over the last year. Now Facebook is making a big jump into the real-time video space, as the social network announced yesterday that anyone with an iPhone in the U.S. will now be able to livestream through the platform. Facebook rolled out its Live Video feature back in December of 2015, but access was originally limited to verified users, celebrities, and journalists. By expanding access to all U.S. users with an iPhone and with Live Video for Android currently in the works, Facebook appears to be after a big piece of the livestreaming market share from Twitter-owned Periscope, Meerkat, Youtube, and AOL’s Kanvas.
