Facebook unveils new marketing opportunity for brands

Facebook announced a new advertising format this week called Canvas. Canvases are full screen, in-app, immersive, mobile ad units (that was a mouthful).

Unlike traditional rich media, the ads are configured by combining pre-built components (e.g. videos, slideshows) with branding elements to form the ad units. This ensures that the ads load quickly on mobile devices. Another benefit to this approach is that they are quick to configure and don’t require any custom development work.

Creating branded, pharma ads will require rethinking of how safety information is served up, as they don’t allow for scrolling text boxes, which the industry has grown accustom to in other display formats.
