Data Journeys: Climate Action Accelerators

Through its engagement with hundreds of nonprofits over the past several years, PJMF’s Data and Society team has developed practical insights into how nonprofit organizations across the globe have sought to adopt the use of advanced data management and analytics practices to drive impact.

These insights have shaped the hallmark of the team’s programmatic support to our grant partners: a combination of tech tools and practical data engineering and management guidance that accompanies modest amounts of funding. In 2022, the Data and Society Accelerator program launched its support for 10 climate action organizations around the world to advance their use of data and AI for impact. These nonprofits work from New Jersey to Honduras to India on a range of environmental issues, including wildlife and marine conservation, land management, wind energy, soil carbon sequestration, and the impact of climate change on the world’s most vulnerable populations.

This blog series follows these 10 organizations as they make progress on their respective “data journeys.” Some begin by exploring where data science can scale their impact, and others consider how to leverage emergent technologies to advance and accelerate outcomes. All underscore the value of collaborative teams comprised of a variety of roles in developing shared roadmaps. Follow along here for the first installment starting Wednesday, June 29th — and for more to come.
