Why every one of our clients gave us a referral

Patronous is a product development studio based out of San Jose, CA. We help our clients build scalable cloud based web and mobile applications that solve their pain points and achieve exceptional outcomes. Our clients come from varied fields of work ranging from high tech to health care to mobile gaming. Some of them are large companies working in healthcare claims processing, some are startups that have raised multiple rounds of funding while others are individuals who had a cool idea.

Having worked with so many teams with varying expectations and different backgrounds, I am extremely proud of the fact that each of our clients have referred and recommended us to their connections. In a world where everyone has easy access to software developers and designers, we take pride in the trust that our clients have shown in us. We also draw inspiration from these recommendations to constantly improve our work and surpass our clients expectations every single time.

After careful introspection and talking to our promoters, we found out the 5 key reasons why our clients liked working with us. This is no epiphany but it’s a validation of the things we already know. Focus on these 5 things and get them right. Rest would automatically follow.

1. Focus on Quality

First and foremost — the work has to be stellar. That’s the most important difference between our company and a freelancer you’d find on upwork. We deeply care about the quality of work that has our brand logo on it. We bill our clients for 8 hours a day but in reality, we put in much more hours than that. The work is not done until everyone who looks at it is wow-ed. So, focus on quality is an absolute must.

2. Effective crisp communication

After one unfortunate incident early on where the client complained about “not knowing” about potential issues with timeline, we made a personal pledge to never repeat this mistake ever. We send out daily email updates, ask plenty of questions and send weekly summaries. We send across design documents and call for review meetings to go over the work while it’s still in progress. Communication is where we prefer to err on the side of excess. At work, surprises are a bad thing!

3. Exceptional work ethic

Someone once told me that to run a successful services business, you need to close your eyes and follow what the client says even if you know they are wrong. I don’t agree. If we see that the client is making the product too complex, we weigh in. If we feel that the flows and requirements don’t make sense, we weigh in. We are not stubborn but we are invested. We understand that if we are to get massively successful, we need to make our clients massively successful.

4. Transparency in development process

Break down the task as much as possible in the project plan and share the plan with the client. Let them watch when the tasks are being completed and how the progress is being made. Let them see you think and let them see you struggle as well. Ultimately, be genuine and give it your 200%. That’s our only formula.

5. Treat it like it’s our own

Once the project is awarded to us, we assume full ownership. Every decision we take is as if the product is our own. If there is something new to be learnt, we will do it. If there are external experts to be brought in, we will do that as well. We are 100% committed to make the best product for our clients as if it were our own idea. We will get your work done. Period.

I think the dedication shown by the team to these simple areas is what keeps us excited to get up every day and come to work. We love to see our clients become heroes in their companies and we love to see them succeed! So, are you ready to discuss your idea with us?
