Happy March, Flyers!

In February, our last planned update for PatternFly 4 was released. Our next major update will happen in June, with the release of PatternFly 5. We’re all hard at work on some exciting changes and look forward to sharing them with you in the coming months. We hope you’re excited as we are!

PatternFly 4 was born in May 2019 and has been continually evolving over 3+ years and 58 releases. Now — it’s all grown up. So today, let’s take a moment to look at what went into the last official PatternFly 4 release.

As always, you can read through a full list of PatternFly’s React and HTML updates, but we’ll go over the highlights here.

We added some new features:

  • Accordion component: scrollable content is now focusable and navigable via assistive technology devices, like a keyboard.
  • Dropdown component: we added a split button variation with a progress indicator checkbox.
  • Text component: we added a new plain list variation.
  • Dual list selector: we added an empty state message to composable dual list selectors that is shown when a filter is applied and all the options are filtered out.
  • Processor icon: we added a new icon named `pf-icon-data-processor` to represent a data processor.

We added React documentation to four more components:

And we did some much-needed spring cleaning:

  • We updated beta components using callback properties to be more consistent. Callback parameters have been reordered so that the event parameter is always first. This breaking change will be made to all non-beta components with PatternFly 5.

So that’s it for PatternFly 4. Our sights are largely set on getting PatternFly 5 ready to share. Follow along on our journey to PatternFly 5 by joining our Slack workspace, subscribing to our mailing list, popping into our Github, and, of course, keeping up with our Medium articles.
