PatternFly is undergoing a new redesign. Along with a new look, the logo has been transformed. The new look isn’t quite ready yet, but in the meantime, we’re excited to show you our new logo.

A massive thank you to Michael Celedonia and Lucia Boehling for their great work on the new redesign.

Saying goodbye to the old logo

The old PatternFly logo

The PatternFly logo has served us well for the past 9 years. We’ve made a lot of great memories since 2014, but it’s time for an update. Don’t worry, it isn’t completely gone. The new logo is more of an evolution of our logo than a replacement.

Ta-da!

As our name suggests, PatternFly is inspired by the fly. So, we thought it would be relevant for our logo to represent the insect. We broke down the form of a fly into two basic parts — the body, represented by a quarter circle, and the wings, represented by a square. We took inspiration directly from the insect itself, utilizing transparent wings and colorful gradients to create a fresh evolution of our previous logo.

How we got here

The new logo was created with a lot of brainstorming and effort. We went through many iterations to find the right one.

Brainstorming

After determining which direction we wanted to go, we made many similar iterations to find the exact logo we wanted. Our designers tested different angles and base shapes to create a clear, effective logo that fits well into PatternFly’s components.

A lot of iterations

New look coming soon

Soon the new look, Penta, will be ready. It aims to bring a modern and fresh style, including true light and dark theme concepts. The scope of our new look is limited to restyling existing components rather than completely rebuilding them, and this should make transitioning to the new look as smooth as it can be for our product teams.

Until Penta, enjoy our new logo! Let us know what you think.
