Working out a draft of a personal essay exploring the intersection of mom guilt, self-care, and relationships. It’s still in its early stages, but here’s an excerpt from the draft:

Mom Guilt.

Here’s the root of it — moms are apologizing for making choices (especially hard choices) that are what’s best for her or for the family. The guilt comes because those choices don’t live up to the social standards of a “good mom.”

The feelings of guilt come because there is a disconnect between what we know is right — what is true for us — and what everyone else thinks.
