This Valentines Day do something totally different and show you really Care

Love is in the air, and as the day of love approaches fast, the world around, people are busy planning to make the day special. It’s a wonderful feeling to see people celebrate love and life and we are all in for it but just this one thing…

We are sure everyone is planning for the perfect gift for their valentine and a perfect gift is one sure shot way of winning your valentine’s heart and making the day special. We wish your day be special and you pick the perfect gift for your valentine, but our only prayer is, let that not be a Pet..

Yes, you can call us out on this one but we sincerely hope the idea doesn’t cross your mind. Here is why we think it’s not a good idea even though we agree that gifting a puppy will immediately bring sparkle to your valentines eye and make the day super special

• Pets are living and breathing beings and not toys to gift wrap and present to others. Just because they are easily available and don’t object to it, let’s not put a Bandana on their necks and put them in a shoe box and wrap them up. Imagine if your Valentine wanted a Beach house or a trip to the Bahamas or a diamond tiara would you be as quick to do it. Pets are much more valuable just that we never consider their emotional value, all it takes it around Rs 5000–6000 and you think you are ready to make the day special.
• We have all laughed hard at the joke the Children’s day (November 14th) being exactly 9 months after valentines day, here is another fact worth crying over, the largest number of pet abandonment happen within 4 months of valentines day ( just like Christmas and new year). No one can say no those puppy eyes when they see one but managing them over a period of time is arduous and not many would be willing to do this. So eventually guess where your perfect valentine gift ends up, right next to the card you gave last year, on the pavement
• You might be willing to make the day special for your valentine, but do remember taking care of the Pet is not just going to be your valentines responsibility. She is going to take the Pet home. Make a smart guess on how compatible the others in the house will be with the unwelcome guest. Unless you plan to make everyone at home your valentine, in which case you surely aren’t going to have time for a Pet, it’s never a good idea to make the decision without knowing about the home the pet is going to

We could think of many more reasons but I think the ones mentioned above paints a picture

If you really want to make the day special and need to have a pet involved, here are a few ideas

• Visit one of the local adoption centers or shelters and spend the day with the orphaned pets. You think that doesn’t make a difference, trust us when we say you will know once you go there. Free hugs and those thankful little eyes staring at you for making that one day special for them will be totally worth it.
• Adopt a stray. You don’t have to take them home if you cannot, just spot one and decide to feed it and pamper it for the next year and then another year and yet another one. Imagine the dog celebrates the day of love every day with you and roams around you as a living breathing proof of your love.
• Contact an NGO and together with your Valentine, gift them something they need to take care of the animals under their care. There are so many people who have the big heart to take care of abandoned animals but miss out on the necessary funds. You might spend around 1500 for a movie on this one day, did you know that this could be used to feed a dog for two whole weeks or even more or might help in the medical expenses to get an animal back to health. • You along with the other valentine couples can organize a drive in your locality to keep water and food for Animals and birds during summer. Imagine the birds and animals blessing you every time they quench their thirst or hunger during the harsh summers.

Feeding an animal in need might not change the world but it changes the world for that Animal

We are all in for the day of love and we sincerely hope that you can spare an hour on this day and all the days to come to shower love, care and attention to animals around you. There is no greater joy than knowing that you have done something on this day which will be remembered forever not just by your valentine but by the whole universe.
