PawnSpace: The KERNEL Update

Our Journey at KERNEL so far, Gitcoin Grants, and more!

“If you were put in a room with 250 of the greatest minds in web3 supporting you, what would you build?” — was the question that was posed to us as we joined Gitcoin’s latest cohort of KERNEL Fellowship, the KERNEL Block III.

As we pondered upon this question, we looked back at what we were attempting to create with PawnSpace. PawnSpace opens up the door for an entire future asset class of Non-fungible Tokens, and allows people to borrow and lend against them in a decentralized and peer-to-peer manner, hence helping in bridging the gap between the banked and the unbanked.

As we build PawnSpace, we feel that it is important to contemplate what we build, who we are ultimately serving, and what it means to be a part of the decentralized finance movement.

KERNEL is an 8-week peer-to-peer learning experience with the best people in the Web3 space. As we successfully completed Week 5and as we move into Week 6, we thought it would be a good idea to introspect what we have achieved in KERNEL halfway through this 8-week journey.

At KERNEL, we came in contact with multiple amazing Stewards, Mentors, and Fellows. We are excited to be able to build connections with such a rich network of individuals.

  • Week 0, was all about meeting our Stewards, Mentors, and the rest of the Fellows.
  • During Week 1, we focused on validating our ideas and plans about PawnSpace. We talked to different Fellows and Stewards and started pitching what PawnSpace is and tried to clarify all their doubts.
  • Week 2, focused on User Testing and User Experience, we learned about the importance of user testing, and we conducted our first UX testing of our Test dApp with one of the Fellows in KERNEL.
  • Week 3 involved us starting to prepare for formalizing our KB3 Adventure, as Expo Day neared. We asked mentors about community building and what it takes to create a loyal community (you!)
  • During Week 4, we had conversations regarding tokenomic designs, Sybil resistance, and incentive designs for PawnSpace. We even submitted our application for Gitcoin Grants
  • Week 5 marked Expo Week. We were halfway through our KERNEL Journey, and Expo Day was the celebration of just that, as we pitched and presented what we are building to the rest of the Fellowship. Our Gitcoin Grants went LIVE this week, and we are thrilled and humbled by all the contributions so far. We also completed a dApp UX testing/review with one of the highly experienced mentors on KERNEL.

Now we are into Week 6 of KERNEL, and we are nearing the end of this amazing journey. But we have made sure to make a lifetime’s worth of connections. As we continue to #BUIDL the next paradigm of DeFi and NFTs, we look to receive more support and love from the KERNEL team.

What’s Coming in the Future

The PawnSpace team is building the go-to platform for collateralizing your NFTs to take loans against them, and we believe the community is going to be our biggest backers. We will be rolling out programs soon for the community to stay updated on our progress and spread the word of PawnSpace.

As KERNEL comes to a close in the next few weeks, we aim to make the best use of it and gain as much wisdom as we can during these next few weeks. Shoutout to Vivek, Sachin, and all the other Stewards, Mentors, and Fellows in KERNEL who have been helping us out from the start of this journey.
