NYC Living Wage Law Expanded by Mayor de Blasio
On September 30, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an executive order to increase and expand New York City’s Fair Wages for New Yorkers Act.
Effective immediately, employees of commercial tenants in projects that receive more than $1 million in subsidies from the city are now included in Living Wage provisions. In addition, the Living Wage is increased to $13.13 per hour, up from $11.90. For employers who offer benefits, the Living Wage is increased to $11.50 per hour, up from $10.30. The law also removes an existing exemption for future development at Hudson Yards. Analysts predict these changes will affect as many as 18,000 workers over the next five years.
