Ranking high in Airbnb search results is one great way to ensure our listing is always booked. While optimizing the Airbnb homepage content is one step, but there are some other ways that a host can make sure that they’ll be seen on the front pages of every relevant search. So, how do you end up on the airbnb homepage, or at least the first search page? How does the Superhost do it? These host tips are some ways that listings can make it to the front page, or even better, the top spot.

Lots of hosts choose Airbnb over other VRBO platforms because of the ‘social media-style’ platform. That’s why it shouldn’t be surprising that promoting our listing on social media platforms is a really good way to bring in more traffic. This sharing can increase page views which will push our listing up in the search results. Sharing the listing on our own personal social channels or in Facebook groups can be a great place to start. Airbnb will notice people coming to your listings, and reward you for that.

Rapid Response Rate

One major way to become a Superhost is to respond to all messages with haste. Response time also plays into search ranking and Superhost status, so download the mobile app and always answer messages as soon as they come in. As far as we can tell, that impacts search ranks.

Showcase the Right Photo

One thing is for certain, human beings are visual. So always make sure that the best photo of the place is on the Airbnb homepage. If none of the photos seem to be attractive enough, think about taking some new ones. Even better, see if there is some Airbnb income available for a professional shoot. Photos make the listing, and in this case, the Airbnb search results.

Avoid Rejections and Cancellations

Airbnb is always taking note of how many guests we accept, and this also plays into our search results. Because of this, avoid rejections and cancellations at all costs. To do so, be clear up front about what kind of guests will be accepted in the description. It is also a good idea to consider a strict cancellation fee.

Update Calendar Regularly

In an attempt to keep the search results relevant, the Airbnb algorithm prefers listings with a calendar that is updated regularly. Log in very frequently and update the availability on the calendar to stay fresh in the Airbnb search results. Some hosts prefer to sync their Google calendar with their listing to help with this.

Build Up Great Reviews

Good reviews make a good listing, that much has been true on Airbnb. A big pile of good reviews is also good for the algorithm. So, send guests a message after their stay asking how it went, if there is space for improvement, and if they’d mind writing a review. In these cases, a little reminder goes a long way.

Be A Superhost

Perhaps it’s a no-brainer, but being a Superhost helps us rank higher in the Airbnb search algorithm. To learn more about being a Superhost check out this past post about it on the Payfully blog.

Ranking high in search results is just the first step, we also need to get our potential guests to click through; but that’s another story for another day. For now, with these tips any Airbnb listing should be one of the first three displayed in guest search results.
