If you think people pick streaming services for content, think again: The top reason is price, and available channels and networks is sixth on the list, according to a Flixed survey.

Choosing a streaming service used to be so simple: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon… done. Things are getting much more complicated, though, with more services and choices arriving all the time. Video blog Flixed took a deep dive into how people are making those choices by surveying 1,000 people currently subscribing to streaming services and came up with a host of interesting findings.

A few choice factoids: Price came out on top as the major factor in how people decide to subscribe to a streaming service, and pricing model was third; whereas “number of accessible channels and networks” was a distant (to my mind) sixth. But an interesting 32 percent subscribe to a service to watch one specific show-and most of them were Game of Thrones fans. (What will they watch now?)

The survey also found that close to one in four respondents plan to cancel an existing subscription if or when they subscribe to an upcoming service. And over one in four plan to subscribe to Disney+ when it’s released. Other pending services didn’t fare as well: Fewer than one in 10 people plan to take on Apple TV (9 percent), HBO Max (7 percent), and Discovery/BBC (5 percent).
