Building a website is time-consuming, so Wix is preparing an AI program that builds it for you.

Wix’s AI Site Generator promises it can build entire websites — including writing the text, placing the images, and adding e-commerce integrations — based on the customer’s request.

All the major website builders already offer pre-built templates that streamline some of the work. However, Wix CEO Avishai Abrahami says AI Site Generator goes beyond cookie-cutter solutions.

“What makes it groundbreaking is that it is not a template. In fact, it’s a unique website designed and tailor-made for you, according to your needs, generated with AI and advanced algorithms,” he wrote in a blog post. “The design and layout are completely fitted to the site’s content.”

The results promise to drastically cut down the time it takes to build a website. In a video, Wix shows AI Site Generator asking for your request. You tell it the details — like what the website is for and what pictures you want to use — and it’ll build the site in seconds. It appears to rely on stock images from Wix’s own media library,

The demos show the AI program is smart enough to create an eye-catching homepage with video, using discounts to advertise your business, and placing pull quotes featuring customer testimonials. Users can then customize the site by instructing Wix’s AI program to make changes where necessary.

Abrahami says OpenAI’s ChatGPT will write the text for the generated website while the company will build the site’s design and images. “We work with various [AI] models, in-house models and out of the box,” Wix told PCMag.

Wix’s CEO adds: “I know this sounds like magic and too good to be true for it to be this easy, but I promise it will soon be a reality.”

The company also plans on using AI to recommend improvements for existing websites. But for now, there’s no word on how much these features will cost customers.
