Ash St. Tenants Send Message Directly to Property Owner
Bypassing what they call a negligent property management company, tenant take their concerns directly to the owner of Ash St. Apartments
After A&G Rental Management’s refusal to recognize or negotiate with the Ash Street Tenants Association, tenant union members have changed course and directed their attention toward the Landon Marsh, owner of the Ash Street Apartment complex.
In an open letter addressed to Landon Marsh, the Ash Street Tenants Association and Portland Tenants United reported that a representative of A&G Rental Management blamed owners for the unprecedented $400 rent increase.
The claim was made during a meeting between A & G Rental Properties, Portland Tenants United and tenant union member of the Ash Street Apartments. At the meeting, tenants demanded A&G rescind the rent increases and eviction threat, clean up uncollected garbage and used syringes left by non-tenants, and negotiate with the tenants union.
In the open letter, the Ash Street Tenants Association notified Marsh of the abusive practices of A&G Rental Management. Tenants also demanded that Marsh rescind the rent increase and eviction threats, clean the property and make repairs, and negotiate with the tenants union.
“Landlords hire firms like A&G to do the dirty work. That said, we don’t want to believe Marsh knows about A&G’s 45 percent rent hikes, eviction threats, neglect of the property, or refusal to negotiate. We want to give him the opportunity to do the right thing to keep Ash Street Tenants housed,”
- Portland Tenants United Organizer Margot Black.
The tenants association added one additional demand of Marsh, that he drop A&G Rental Management over its abuse, unjust eviction threats, and neglect of the property. Tenants gave Marsh until Friday to respond to the letter, after which it promises to resume its escalation campaign to keep Ash Street tenants housed.
