With the Scotiabank Charity Challenge 5K and Half Marathon just one week away, we wanted to feature the Canning family, who is participating in PeaceGeeks’ inaugural year. The Charity Challenge is a unique opportunity for runners or walkers to support local charities in the Lower Mainland. Every dollar that is donated to PeaceGeeks goes directly to helping us continue to work on building digital tools to empower communities in the pursuit of peace.

Simon Canning is the Chair of the Board of Directors and has been with PeaceGeeks since 2017. This will be his daughter Ella’s (featured on the far right) first half marathon, and instead of just cheering on from the sidelines the Canning family have decided to make it a family affair. The rest of Simon’s family will be walking the 5K and raising money in support of PeaceGeeks. For Simon, his passion for PeaceGeeks comes from a central idea: using technology to connect vulnerable people with immediate professional help.

When asked what the Canning family is looking forward to on race day they said, “Spending time together, a little bit of friendly competition and a big breakfast after.”
