On this week’s episode, we discuss the future of MARTA, we look back at the results of the presidential primaries that produced two historically unpopular candidates and talk about who (if anyone) might have fared better, and we close with a discussion of Trump’s trip to Mexico and his up-down on his immigration plan.

Show Notes:

  • You can read the Georgia Chamber’s Medicaid expansion plan here. AJC’s report from Greg Bluestein on the plan’s release is here.
  • Politico has the rundown on last week’s U.S. Senate primaries.
  • We discussed a lot on MARTA. Here’s some of what we talked about:
  • Atlanta Magazine’s excellent longread on MARTA’s history.
  • Atlanta Magazine’s profile of MARTA CEO Keith Parker.
  • A 2013 article in Southern Spaces on the failure of the 2012 TSPLOST vote.
  • Luke noted that there were actually two MARTA bills last year because of a typo on the committee assignment.
  • This is the study committee report that kicked off the MARTA discussion in 2014.
  • These are each the two Brookings reports that discuss the link between transit and jobs. Suburban poverty was the focus of long articles in Politico Magazine (by Atlanta’s Rebecca Burns!) and The Atlantic in the last couple years.
  • Finally, here is some of the latest reporting on MARTA’s efforts to upgrade its equipment, including new trains and signs and Transit Oriented Development.
  • You can check out Trump’s visit to Mexico on C-SPAN and read Phillip Bump’s annotation of the text of Trump’s immigration speech.
