Don’t Become A Feelings Graveyard
Feel What You Need To Feel
“We destroy ourselves when we stop feeling. If you bury your feelings within you, you become a graveyard.” — Bernie S. Siegel
My feelings made other people uncomfortable.
When I was a young girl, my feelings were pushed aside by the grown ups around me. Partly because nobody cared, partly because of the parenting styles of that time.
My feelings also made me feel uncomfortable.
Why does talking about my feelings make me uncomfortable?
Being your authentic self is risky and even discouraged. I’m too much. I have big feelings.
Most people put up facades of having it all together. You ask, “How are you doing?” and they reply, “Great!”
Sharing raw, real, or uncomfortable feelings might not feel safe or appropriate.
What happens when you don’t share your feelings?
A 12-year study published in 2013 suggests a link between emotional suppression and risk of early death. Yikes.
Suppressing emotions can add to the stress you experience. Unaddressed stress tends to linger in the body.
