Ottiyambakkam Quarry Lake
Serenity amidst Chaos
Set in the southern outskirts of Chennai, this quarry lake is surrounded by serene farmlands and ponds filled with water lilies. It is also situated close to the IT corridor (~6km from AGS Cinemas on the Old Mahabalipuram road).
How To Reach
Folks travelling from the Northern/Western parts of the city can take the Velachery-Tambaram Main Road to reach Medavakkam and take the Mambakkam Main Road from there.
For people from the south-east like Thiruvanmiyur/Taramani, route from OMR could be nearer.
Far southerners from Tambaram/Chrompet can pedal via Gowrivakkam or Madambakkam to reach Sithalapakkam, from where they can hop onto the Mambakkam Main Road.
While Here
Similar to the Tirusulam quarry, this location has a hill surrounded by a couple of lakes (out of which only one is clean). A short trek to the hilltop (which takes under 10 minutes) reveals vast stretches of green farmlands and jungles all around. One could just sit there absorbing the cacophonic silence and beauty of the panorama; Or lie down to witness the thespian exhibits of clouds.
Also, small strolls (~1 km radius) around this quarry revealed many small ponds with blooming water lilies.
Nearest food points are either at Medavakkam, Madambakkam or OMR, depending on the return route. If returning via Madambakkam or Kelambakkam-Vandalur road , there’s a bonus at Sitalapakkam lake as well!
