Peerfin @ Future Blockchain Summit ( 3rd may 2018)
World’s most influential blockchain festival”, that's what Dubai Government termed the event as , and it was true to its word. The city hosted the most influential group of visionaries in business and blockchain Industry from all over the globe — A number as huge as 7000 change makers under one single roof.
Focused on moving beyond technical feasibility and theories, the conference with over 70 sessions dived deep into real-world applications, creating opportunities and catalysing adoption across a range of sectors. The event was also an attempt to accelerate blockchain application in Dubai and beyond.
Peerfin was invited to this happening summit as global finalists for the Smart Dubai Office Blockchain challenge — to explore ways in helping Dubai reach its vision of being a Blockchain powered city by 2021. The event gave an opportunity to explore, learn and more importantly understand the mammoth potential that blockchain unlocks in every sector.
The Conference was riddled with notable speakers from across the world. The opening panel discussion included Dr Larry Sanger, Cofounder of Wikipedia, Brock Pierce, Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation and Alex Tapscott, Author of Blockchain Revolution. Larry Spoke on the new age Wikipedia 2.0 being built on EOS and its launch in the next couple months.
The keynote by Brock Pierce at the first day of summit was nothing but sheer inspirational. Clad in his iconic fancy looking trousers and hat, his speech was one that kept the entire hall of audience glued to their seats. His story of launching one of the first few ICOs in the world to his stints at Blockchain foundation and EOS was a journey worth listening . His closing thoughts that “A billionare is not one who owns a billion dollars but touches a billion lives positively ” was something that made everyone in the hall think.
Another highlight was meeting with Brian Behlendorf- Founder of the Apache web server decades ago , and now the Executive Director of Hyperledger of Linux foundation. A long time fan of him, getting to pitch peerfin to him was indeed a pleasure.
With over 100 speakers and some of the best Blockchain based startups in the world present , the interactions and networking left almost everyone exhausted — but content. Content, about having learned things straight from the ones who had done it already, Content that they had struck partnerships that would go a long way forward.
