When NEM Came to India!

The Blockchain movement in India has begun. The first edition of the NEM Blockchain meetup in India was successfully organised at Kochi in Kerala in association with NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Company), Peerfin and Developer Circles Kochi. Kerala has already been in news for the open-armed welcome it has extended to blockchain. It was in August that a renowned educational institution affiliated to the Kerala Technological University signed an MoU with a peer to peer education lending and scholarship platform, adopting blockchain to run their scholarship program in a reliable and accessible manner.

The meet-up was organised on 28th September with over 120 attendees at Infopark, Kerala’s buzzing tech hub. The attendees included techies, students, developers, other professionals and laymen who were intrigued by the buzzword. Srikanth GS, COO, Coinome digital asset exchange, gave an introduction to blockchain, stressing on why it was important to look for the actual need for blockchain technology in projects instead of jumping onto the bandwagon. Dona Rinon, NEM MIddle East Lead and Paul Christian, General Manager, NEM Middle East held sessions on Blockchain Technology and the NEM Blockchain.

This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Dona, Paul, Srikanth and Rahul R Pillai, CEO of Peerfin.The discussion was a platform for open dialogue on India’s stand on Blockchain, the implications of decentralization and the future, with regards to cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain companies. The audience were also allowed to pose their questions to the speakers through the Peerfin telegram channel. Conceived and hosted by the team behind Peerfin, the meetup became a confluence of speakers, thinkers, and developers in the blockchain.
