Finding affordable, low-cost test prep resources can be a challenge, so here’s a guide to some resources that affordable or free!

  • Khan Academy offers excellent resources for test prep. Best known for their educational videos, they also offer a variety of test-specific prep resources and are the official prep partner with College Board. All access is free, and they range from lower elementary aid to career counseling.
  • College Board is an excellent source for test prep. Through them, you can register for standardized exams (SAT, AP), as well as take sample practice tests for said exams. They also offer various information about colleges. Some resources may cost money, but many are free. They also offer extensive resources related to financial aid.
  • Your local library is a great resource. Many offer practice tests and classes at low cost. Call a library near you and ask for more information on their “Prep Books” section!
  • Quizlet offers an easy access to numerous amounts of digital flashcards related to many different topics. Each is made by peers studying for the same test. Free, unless you choose to upgrade to pro. You can also make your own quizlets for a more personalized approach to studying.
  • Reddit contains subreddits containing information all about numerous tests, such as looking at the subreddit rACT, rAPstudents, rIBO, and rSAT. Reddit is a community of students who work together to discuss exams and share prep resources to help you.
  • Testive provides a free consultation and allows students to take practice exams and complete self-paced practice activities. There are additional premium services that are on the more expensive side but offer personalized coaching and is available for long term or month to month payment plans.
  • Prepfactory offers free prep for ACT, SAT, PARCC, and SBAC. Specialized section tests, as well as aid, are available with use.
  • Kaplan is slightly cheaper than Testive and offers a greater range of price options. If you qualify for an ACT test fee waiver, then you can get a free online prep course through Kaplan, who is an official partner with the ACT. Kaplan also provides free online practice exams for the SAT and ACT.
  • The Princeton Review is a great place for SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject prep specifically, but offers resources for other tests as well. Some resources may cost money, but many are free, including free in-person practice exams in offices around the country. Additionally, The Princeton Review provides low-cost test-prep books that can be found on Amazon or at bookstores. The Princeton Review also provides free prep for select AP exams on getafive.com
  • SAT Vocab — Mindsnacks App is available in the app store, and offers vocab review. It is free for 20 words, and $4.99 for 500 words.
  • IXL Math Practice App is available in the app store and provides review with basic math concepts. Does have a small cost.
  • Barrons- free online SAT practice tests and low-cost books on Amazon. They offer video resources as well.
  • Method Test Prep- $150 ACT/SAT online self-paced course. A great option for those with the budget for a course but do not have room in their schedule.
  • Varsity Tutors- free online test prep and practice questions for the ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Exams. Extensive resources. Excellent option for those looking for help in more specific areas.
  • Union Test Prep- extensive resources and free online SAT test prep in specific areas
  • The College Panda- a detailed blog featuring useful tips and trick to acing the SAT, ACT and similar tests. Completely free.
