Discovered in 2017, Ross 128 b is likely to be a rocky exoplanet. A study speculates that it could be livable.

Astronomers have discovered around Ross 128 a planet that could be rocky. Seen from the Earth, it is not possible for researchers to determine its size.

In a recent study published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, researchers drew a robot portrait of this planet. According to them, Ross 128 b is probably not the exact twin of the Earth but could still be livable.

To find out more about this planet, researchers have therefore dissected the near-infrared light of Ross 128.

“It’s exciting what we can learn on another planet by determining what the light of its host star tells us about the chemistry of the system,” said Diogo Souto, one of the researchers. Although Ross 128b is not the twin of the Earth and we still do not know its potential geological activity, we have been able to reinforce the argument that it is a temperate planet that could have water liquid on its surface.”
