For your health, you should not drink fruit juice anymore

Poor in fiber, high in sugars, fruit juices are not as healthy as you might think.

Even if it is homemade, a juice does not bring the same benefits as the food in its raw state. And often, fruit juice, especially industrial, is just as much, even sweeter than a soda.

A fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals, fructose and fiber. When turned into juice, it loses a majority of its nutritional contributions, essential to the body.

“The biggest loss concerns fibers, which contribute to the proper functioning of the intestinal transit, stimulate its immunity, and eliminate some of the cholesterol,” says Dr. Philippe Pouillart, researcher in culinary practice and health.

In addition, a glass of fruit juice does not equate to a fruit. It takes on average two oranges to get a glass of 80 to 100 ml of juice. As for juices bought in supermarkets, “a glass contains about four to five oranges. It consumes much more fructose”, says Olivia Szeps, dietician nutritionist in Paris. Fructose, in other words fruit sugar, is a natural fuel for the body. But if it is consumed in large quantities, it is transformed and stored in fat.

Not to mention that we do not chew whereas this action is essential to improve the digestive system and have a feeling of satiety. In addition, “the glycemic index is lower if the food is chewed,” adds the dietician nutritionist.

Nothing beats a good freshly cut fruit.
