Recogito + DARIAH = sustainability for semantic annotations
We’re delighted to be able to share the news that Pelagios has been awarded a DARIAH Theme Funding award for 2018/19.
DARIAH are an EU-funded infrastructure which aims to support arts and humanities scholars working with computational methods in their teaching and research. This year’s funding call was focused on the chronic problem of software and tool sustainability in the digital humanities. With the support from this grant, we will embed our annotation platform Recogito within the DARIAH ecosystem of tools and services. Practically, this means working in two distinct areas: technical integration and community support.
The technical aspect will involve improving interoperability with other DARIAH tools. This will enable Recogito users to work with digital texts hosted on the TextGrid TEI repository and with the GeoBrowser — an interdisciplinary tool for the analysis of space-time relations. In addition, we will be further improving the user interface, extending the API and adding capabilities for harvesting metadata from Recogito.
From the community side, we will continue building the Recogito user base by embedding its use within scholarly practice. This will include: hosting training workshops within the DARIAH network, running DARIAH-focused events at Linked Pasts 2019, and translating pedagogical materials and tutorials into other European languages.
We see this closer integration with DARIAH as an important contribution towards Pelagios making the successful transition to becoming a self-sustaining Association. We are extremely proud to be associated with DARIAH and look forward to working more closely with their network and infrastructure over the next 12 months.
