Night Falls, And I Fall Down

Night falls, and I fall down
my heart descends into the ground,
pulling me into the dark

Night falls, and I fall down
it drowns my smile
for a while

Light fades, and I fade out
my heart breaks for reasons unknown
tearing a maelstrom through my chest

Light fades, and I fade out
the brightness I hold so close
destroyed in a breath

Night falls, and I fall down
my shoulders bend beneath the world’s heft,
my eyes water with the weight

Night falls, and I fall down,
but come morning, I climb to my trembling feet,
step by step, I walk free

Light fades, and I fade out,
but I will shine again, somehow,
embrace the dawn, and light the way ahead
