Familiarity and Meaningfulness in Design
Have you ever felt confused, lost and even frustrated.
Basically, humans have sensors that can convert what they see or feel to be meaningful information and create a conclusion / decision. Familiarity / meaningfulness describes the ability of human perception to make this successful conversion to help us form a meaningful mental representation of an object.
As a designer, the most important things to do are focus on the goal and set the design so the user perceives what you want them to see, rather than what their mind wants them to see. Direct user attention by creating familiar and meaningful designs. Determine which parts are the main of the user’s attention and lead them to the right decisions and perceptions. Don’t let your design make the user get lost and make the wrong decision.
