Plato’s timeless insight, “Knowledge without justice ought to be called as cunning, rather than wisdom,” challenges us to think beyond intellectual capability.
True wisdom is rooted in justice, compassion, and fairness, ensuring that knowledge uplifts rather than oppresses. This principle finds a vivid illustration in a lesser-known story from rural India — a tale of transformative change sparked by ethical knowledge.
The Story of Rukmini Devi: A Crusader for Justice in Education
In a small village in Tamil Nadu, Rukmini Devi, a young teacher, noticed a disturbing trend.
Children from lower-caste families often dropped out of school early, not because they lacked potential, but because the system was stacked against them. Schools were underfunded, teachers were indifferent, and societal prejudices further marginalized these children.
Rukmini, armed with her teaching degree and a deep sense of justice, decided to act. She began visiting families to convince them to send their children, especially girls, back to school.
