There are times when we get a public forum and begin to get a little too comfortable. We either say things or do things that go too far. People use their celebrity for, we’ll say, favors to “help” others advance their careers.

Every industry it seems is wrapped up in it. In the restaurant world, you have chefs like Mario Batali and John Besh, using their fame and high positions to pursue women in inappropriate ways.

It happens in music. It happens with authors. It happens in Hollywood, most famously with Harvey Weinstein.

These perpetrators of sexual conquests, who seemingly think they have done nothing wrong at the time, always seem to be found out in the end. And then, as they say, they are canceled.

But is it possible to climb back?

Ryan Adams is a talented musician and incredible songwriter. He is known to be cranky, you might even say agitated, at some of his shows. He has written and recorded some moving songs, played with some of the best musicians, even appeared in movies.

But then it all came crashing down when it was reported he had offered to help some young, up and coming artists in their careers in exchange for sex.

He had tours canceled and planned albums shelved. He too had been canceled. Since then, I have read articles…
