Abstract artist PennZeppelin is bringing his gorgeous and transcendent artwork to the digital space with his first NFT drop. PennZeppelin, whose real name is Doug Penn, selected 10 of his favorite paintings to create as NFTs, and they will be available for just a limited time.

There are 10 paintings spanning the last 30 years of PennZeppelin’s art career to be auctioned in “The Red Series” NFT drop. The 3-day auction will open on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, and there will be a special edition of each of the 10 images, where each NFT is a 1 of 1 and the winner will receive the physical painting.

The first person to buy each of these 1/1 NFTs will receive the physical painting. Instructions for how to contact him, as well as the full resolution photo of the painting, will be unlocked when you collect this NFT. You will have both the NFT + physical painting. From that point, if you wanted, you could resell the NFT to get a discount on your painting or perhaps get it for free.

Red Frame Images are 1/1 NFT + Physical Paintings

In addition, there will be 100 limited edition NFTs for each of the 10 images.

Auctions open at 5 pm Eastern on April 6, 2021 and close at 11:59 pm Eastern on April 9, 2021.

About PennZeppelin: Doug Penn has spent a lifetime developing and perfecting the unique painting technique that he uses to create gorgeous, transcendent abstract artwork. He describes his paintings as works that create a simple, direct emotional connection with the viewer.

PennZeppelin credits the act of painting as helping him overcome the doubts, insecurity, and instability that were instilled in him during his childhood, saying:

“It’s like, the ship’s going down and you grab something and hang onto it with hopes that you can get back to a situation that’s stable, something where you can realize the hopes you still have for yourself.

It’s like you’re in darkness and you can’t see anything, but your soul is leading you in the right direction, so painting was doing that for me, and it’s always been that. I’ve never regretted it ever… following art, following music… it’s always been a good thing, never been a bad thing.

Painting validated me, that internal part of me that you could express yourself, you could believe… It was therapy, it was hope, that’s what kept me going.

The Red Series Collection

It Only Goes To Show — Sometimes a good title to a painting is almost as essential as the painting itself. Even more important than a really good frame. An abstract’s identity comes into focus more vividly and its true character becomes readily apparent. Take away a good title and the painting somehow seems to fall away losing that emotional power which it previously had.
Islands In The Stream — Not all of my paintings are based on things that I’ve seen or places I’ve been to. In fact I don’t usually have anything specific in mind when I paint them. So to come up with a good title I’ll use ideas from pretty much anything. Could be something from a movie ,maybe something I’ve read or heard someone say, or perhaps a musical reference such as a line in a song or a song title but really I will use pretty much anything that seems to fit the mood of the painting and has a complementary value to that mood. Here I used a song title that was a big hit for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton back in the 80s. The emotional power and beauty that they created together on that song still resonates with me to this day!
Martian Tsunami — I really could have gone in any direction in coming up with a title for this painting. Sometimes you just have to go with the idea that when making a choice, you’ll know it when you see it! Just like throwing spaghetti at the wall.
St. Ann’s Bay — I have a series of paintings I’ve done based on when I stayed with friends in the hills above St. Ann’s Bay on the north coast of Jamaica. It was also in the same area where Bob Marley grew up and went to school until he was ten years old before moving away to Kingston. My friend Lenny would drop me off at one of the area beaches to spend the day snorkeling and hanging out with the locals just having a great time! Lenny would later swing by after work and pick me up on his way back home. Jamaica was always good times!
Sunrise At Negril — Another painting in the series based on my visit with friends on the north coast of Jamaica.
Ocho Rios — One more painting from the series I did of my stay in Jamaica.
P’s & Q’s — Sometimes I do a painting just for fun. This is one of those!
Sunset Tide — In this painting I did something that I hadn’t done before. I did a stop and go movement when I brushed a white glazing across the very top and bottom of the painting. This created vertical ghost lines which run from left to right. A nice delicate textural accent to complement the strength of what is happening in the central part of the canvas which I had done first.
Three Plumes — On this painting I painted the three horizontal plumes with a dark brown glaze. Next I painted the light pastel shade of burnt orange as a square in the middle ground. Behind that I painted the medium burnt orange as a rectangle. Behind that I painted a pearl grey in the corners as the last background layer. All this to create an interesting context for “The Three Plumes.”
Siesta Beach — I love to capture the movement of the ocean and the feeling of the beach in my paintings. This one brings alive the roar of the ocean as the sun sets over the horizon.
