INNOVATION MEETS TECHNOLOGY — MOBEX 2016

H.E John Dramani Mahama opened the ceremony

The new age of technology has come quite far as we witness the concept settling in within our society. The digital economy in Africa is thriving; the ease of access to the internet and its numerous resources has successfully seeped into the minds of many as was evident at the just ended African Mobile and ICT Expo (MOBEX) 2016 held at the Accra International Conference Centre between June 7th and 9th of this year.

Coasters Company Limited, a Ghanaian industry giant, hosted the event. MOBEX served as a networking hub that brought together under one roof, everything technology.

With the theme, “Digital Economy: Untapped resource for accelerated economic growth”, this year’s MOBEX was an “assembly of captains, investors and enthusiasts of the ICT industry”

As at 8 am on the morning of the expo, booths were still being installed and that got us, the early birds (the Pentiumtech team, of course) skeptical. However, by 10 am, everything was in place, H.E John Mahama, opened the ceremony and we got down to business.

I must say, I was impressed with the turn up as I went through the throngs of tech enthusiasts who were willing to learn more than they already did and explore new age technology.

There were so many innovative products on exhibition that made me content with how deeply seated the idea of technological innovation had come in Africa.

Industry giants and influencers came out in their numbers to present their thoughts and ideas as well as advise the numerous start-up enthusiasts in the forums that ran through all three days of the expo. Among the industry giants present were the honorable Minister of Communications and his deputy, Apostle George Ofosu-Amoani, Ethel Cofie, Nehemiah Attigah, Paul Adom Otchere, Lucy Quist, Regina Honu, and our very own Funmilola Akeju of Sage Nigeria, amongst others.

Our dedicated media house representatives were ever present.

Amidst the numerous sales calls and promotions on display, Pentiumtech focused on educating attendees on Sage Pastel accounting solutions, mainly Sage One accounting, which aims at catering to the accounting needs of SME’s, startups and growing small businesses.

Naturally, in light of the atmosphere at the expo, quite a number of participants embraced the idea of cloud based online accounting. Who wouldn’t want to be able to access their accounts and transactions everywhere they went; especially with the numerous online payment systems sprouting up.

We all aim at settling on the most convenient mode of payment, service delivery, etc., that is what participants expected to see at the expo and they were not disappointed.

Our team successfully spread out and reached the multitude of participants and interacted with them. Most people only had issues with security, as they believed anything cloud based was prone to malicious retrieval to which we successfully debunked as we went factually prepared; that’s what we do.

To conclude, I believe MOBEX 2016 was a success.

We networked greatly with participants and even secured a few proposals for partnerships and further business deals.

We will definitely be looking forward to the next one.

We also hope to expand our reach by then to present more relevant, innovative and resourceful products to the ICT industry.
