Today, weā€™re very excited to roll out our new product iteration: Peoople v2

For the last 4 months we have been re-building our iOS + Android app in React Native and we couldnā€™t be happier and more proud about it āœŒļø.

Introducing Collections

We wanted to make Peoople more useful and fun for our users, so we decided to make Collections the main feature of our app.

ā€œCollecting things is associated with positive emotions. There is the happiness from adding a new find to the collection, the excitement of the hunt, the social camaraderie when sharing their collection with other collectorsā€ source

Now you can organise and mix all kinds of recommendations within Collections and make them Public or Private: All your musts for a 48H trip to NY, your TOP 10 Horror Movies, a birthday wishlist, your favorite airbnbā€™sā€¦ the possibilities are endless!

Infinite Likes šŸ’™

We love how Claps work on Medium, theyā€™re addictive. Inspired by their product team, we implemented Infinite Likes within our app.

In Spain we often say ā€˜mil graciasā€™ (a thousand thanks) whenever weā€™re thankful for something.
Now our users can literally send ā€˜a thousand likesā€™ whenever theyā€™re thankful for what they discover.

Technically speaking, we wanted to make a combination of an animation (thanks to Lottie) and feedback (thanks to Haptic feedback ) in order to give users the feeling of a heart beating. We are very hyped with the results šŸ¤“.

Native maps šŸ—ŗ

Coming from Ionic v1 this a huge deal for us. With Ionic v1, maps were rendered in JavaScript, now with React Native maps are rendered natively, the experience is flawless:

Maps are key feature for Peoople, one of the biggest use-cases of the app is to discover recommendations around you. Weā€™re also adding a Map to every collection containing geo-places šŸ™Œ.

To implement this we used the _famous_ RN library react-native-maps, we needed to tweak a lot of stuff to optimise performance but itā€™s a really good library. We added some custom design to the map using SnazzyMaps.

More features and next steps

Since we built the app from scratch, weā€™re introducing many more features and improvements such as: 100x faster experience, new & improved design, new on-boarding, new product view, and many many more thing that I would love for you to discover.

The next few months at Peoople are looking to be very exciting šŸ˜, we will be releasing new app updates every week , we literally can not wait to add every new functionality in our Trello.

If you want to check the new Peoople, you should definitely download it and follow all of our team on Peoople: @gonzalo, @yolanda, @sara, @claudia, @patri, @david, @jesus, @stefano.
