If I Were At theSkimm

theSkimm is killing it. Seriously. They nailed email as a platform for getting product-market fit, scaling up, and establishing a voice and product. They nailed social. Particularly, their Instagram account is a killer. It conveys their personality. It is super hard to build a personality around a news company. They nailed their mobile app. Man, its awesome.

As a part of my “unsolicited ideas” series, I would like to make my ideas for theSkimm public.

I actually made of them public already.

dheerja works at theSkimm. And, her response is fair and understandable.

Another thing that I would look into if I were on the team is to enable Skimmers to select packages of events to subscribe to for Skimm Ahead. I might be a movie fanatic thats interested in all movie launch dates or a techie thats interested in all tech meets up in NYC. In the most recent update, they have enabled us to be able to subscribe to individual events manually. To be fair, I came up with that idea before they rolled out the update. So, I guess, what I am suggesting here might be the next logical update in the future.

There’s so much potential ( both monetization and product wise) in the territory they have entered with this subscription product. I love how we can link out each event from the calendar to the respective brands/companies or shows. Amazingly thoughtful!
