The Brutality Of Education
I agree with you. 😀 Classes like these are what we need. I am so glad and thankful that Aaron Levie and Robert Siegel are taking the time out to teach students what really matters. I am not saying this merely because I am a tech enthusiast. Even non-tech students should sign up for such courses to keep things in perspective and to stay on top of what is really shaping the world. One does not only have to learn about things he or she thinks directly influence his or her career. Not everyone needs to know what new app launched today or what startup raised millions or the specifics of VR, AR, eSports or IoT trends are.
But, I strongly believe, that everyone deserves to and should have macro-level information and understanding of where our world/economy is headed.🤓
Now, that brings me to the brutal part of education. I am referring to how disadvantaged *most* students are. 😳
Yes, Silicon Valley is the hub of innovation in the United States. But, that does not mean that there are no students outside of the bay area or Stanford that are craving such meaningful, practical and relevant courses at colleges. Yes, it is totally unreasonable to expect accomplished entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and the like to teach at every college. But, there should be some accommodations for those that don’t go to Stanford or MIT or Wharton. Yes, motivated students could go to youtube and just consume content to keep up with the trends. But, most students don’t even know that such courses exist. I think educational institutions should collaborate with the tech communities to take conscious steps to spread awareness about such courses, explain their significance and relevance, and most importantly, make it very easy and accessible for students to expose themselves to such education. Mere streaming of such courses in a class could foster collaborative learning and enlightening discussions.
Once the students are informed enough and educated sufficiently, yes, there will be lines outside such classes even if no credits are offered for them. 👏🏽
