/r/Political_Revolution’s Response to the State of the Union
During the evening, President Donald Trump held his first State of the Union Address to the nation. As members of /r/Political_Revolution, our response to the President’s address is one of anger. And it reminds us why we are fighting this fight. Not only against a Republican Majority in the House and the Senate, but in the Executive branch. This branch, with a President, whose demagoguery has brainwashed the people of our nation. By making DREAMers the playing cards for his egregious border wall and expanding ICE by explosive proportions. His use of people put in the worst of positions to bring his policies to anything palatable is what we’ve seen last night.
Through a State of the Union with fluff and vagueness in the policies he wishes Congress to enact for his agenda; he’s forgotten too many important issues which are more pressing for the people than a Border Wall, than Tax Reform which doesn’t benefit the middle class. He’s disregarded the Opiate Crisis in our nation by simply saying he’s going to get tough on the drug peddlers and their dealers. Without creating any way to help the people with these addictions, which are now becoming fatal too often. And will most likely remain with the same policies of the war on drugs, and not giving people any real help to end addiction. The former candidate of Family Values is committed to splitting them up by allowing prison recidivism through non-violent drug convictions, or neglecting to appropriate funds to Medicaid and addiction recovery programs.
He’s forgotten to mention that during his first year as the President of the United States, job growth has been at it’s lowest level since 2010. He’s forgotten his main promises of draining the swamp, which would be in an ideal nation, would attract bipartisan support. But he’s very eager to prop up his disgustingly large amount of wall street ridden cabinet members; who are completely oblivious to the issues that happen in the average American household.
As Political Activists and the real majority of this nation, waiting and ready to answer the call to have our voices heard on the national stage, we’ve been forgotten by the man who believed he was the man of the people, but we know that isn’t the case. And we’re now seeing the products of being forgotten as the people of this great nation running for offices we would never consider people running for if this were any other time. The President believes the people truly believe cutting Medicare by ~$500 billion, Medicaid by $1 trillion, and Social Security by $64 billion would help our nation; when he said as one of his major campaign promises to not cut but to expand. But as always, he’s added cabinet members committed to making sure maintaining the current numbers, or expansion of those programs never see the light of day and are determined to cut as fast as possible, with the chances of a Republican Majority in both chambers of the US Congress being maintained dwindling with their blatant neglect and disregard of the issues of the people.
As members of /r/Political_Revolution, we are committed to fighting the President if he tries to take away people’s healthcare through the cutting of already underfunded programs. We are committed to maintaining and expanding whatever modest protections which exists with the Dodd-Frank Act. We are committed to preserve the rights of minorities of race, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, etc. And the State of the Union of the President of the United States of America shall not deter us to electing progressives in all branches of government. Be it in the local, the state, and our federal government.
