We tell you that we’re different from everyone else. That we’re changing the world of advertising and redefining the status quo. But aren’t we also asking you to watch ads?

It’s true, we are essentially relocating rather than eliminating ads. But by moving advertising within our app we are:

  • Putting you in control of what you see and when
  • Rewarding you for your time and attention
  • Ensuring you’re only matched with relevant brands

In this quick blog post, we’ll go into a bit more detail to show you just how different we are.

No more hiking shoes

Whether you were forced to view a video ad for hiking shoes, despite being a city dweller that has never stepped foot in the countryside, or you were stalked by an ad for formula milk, when you’re 99% sure you don’t have a child, we can all agree irrelevant ads are just a waste of our time and lead to a less enjoyable digital experience. In the people.io app we avoid these mismatches. Because brands have the ability to target you based on your interests, behaviours, location and buying habits (data YOU provide, but the advertisers never see), the app can act as a pretty effective matchmaker. You’ll be connected with brands that are relevant to you, and hopefully you’ll actually enjoy engaging with them. We’re not matching you with them at random!

A pop-up ad when you’re watching a video? We think not!

Currently, the only way you can stop online ads appearing is by installing an ad blocker. And even that isn’t foolproof, as adverts sometimes have sneaky ways of slipping past them.

No one ever asks if you actually wanted to see that particular ad at that particular time, and no one cares if your online experience is being made worse because of it. But we do. We want you to be able to interact with brands on your terms, i.e. when you actually have some free time — not when, just for a second, you don’t want to be faced with the impossible choice of deciding which washing detergent (there are so many!) to use. If you don’t want to interact with a brand, you don’t have to. You have control over who you hear from, and when.

Money, money, money

Have you ever been paid for watching an ad before? Most likely not. Publishers will tell you that ‘free’ content is your reward, but is it really free if you’re paying for it with your time (and on their terms too)? And shouldn’t we have the choice not to hand over our data in return for reading an article?

We’ve decided to give you a fairer deal. Every time you interact with the people.io app, whether you’re answering questions or engaging with brands, you earn credits that you can later exchange for whatever takes your fancy in our well-stocked marketplace.

Advertising has gotten a bad rap recently, and for good reason. But by putting you in control, by connecting you with relevant brands and by rewarding you for your time and attention, we believe we’ve hit upon the formula for enjoyable advertising. If you think this sounds good then get started today, by downloading the people.io app.
