Walled garden or prison?

You might have heard of mobile number portability (to switch phone operators) or bank account portability (to switch banking providers). But have you heard of ‘data’ portability?

It seems the Indian government is considering ‘data’ portability to empower its citizens. One of the spiritual godfathers of the ‘India Stack’ movement, Nandan Nilekani is distinctly uncomfortable with data colonization. “7 to 8 multinational companies might become massive monopolies or aggregators of data.”

This focus on users, privacy and security is very much our purpose at People First movement. We are creating the tools, rules and processes to put people front and center before corporation’s relentless pursuit of financial return.
