Mobigraph’s apps have over 750,000+ users. Their previous project had 7 figures in VC funding. And if you’ve been following digital expressions like emojis and stickers for any length of time, you already know plenty about the company.

But what exactly does Mobigraph do, and why is its blockchain-based app poised to disrupt the billion-dollar microcontent space?

In this article, you’ll learn everything you want to know about the industry and the company. We’ll look at mobile devices and how they’re used, then move on to emotive microcontent, and finally explain how Mobigraph’s new app will benefit consumers, designers, studios and render farmers.

We’ll start by talking about…

Mobile Devices and Messaging

In America, the average consumer spends 5 hours and 4 minutes per day watching their TV. This is representative of the developed world as a whole, in that consumers get most of their content and entertainment from their television. Some countries, like France, may watch comparatively less TV — but at 3.4+ hours a day, French people still watch a lot of TV.

And here’s why this matters.

After a long period in which TVs were the #1 source of consumer entertainment, mobile devices are challenging them. In the US, consumers already spend 5 hours per day on their smartphones and tablets. That’s just as many as they do watching TV.

The difference is, TVs are mostly used to consume content — whereas mobile devices are mostly used to communicate. 90% of all mobile uptime is spent inside apps, and social apps are the most popular of all. This makes mobile devices very different to radio, television and other content channels.

Case in point: all of America’s top 3 apps — Facebook, YouTube, FB messenger — are social. Of America’s top 10 apps, 60% are social. And in the world as a whole, 4.2 userssend 8 billion text messagesevery year, highlighting the main reason people use mobile phones: social and professional interactions.

Put more simply, old-school entertainment was about watching other people. Today, entertainment is about connecting with people. To this end, digital messages have evolved a great deal since their inception in the early 90s

Specifically, expressive digital communicationhas come to the forefront of the 21st century user’s experience. Here’s what this means, why you should care, and how Mobigraph is involved.

Mobigraph’s Role in the Evolution of Emotive Messaging

Users have looked for ways to add emotion to their digital messages since the early days of SMS services. What started out as a collection of simple “:)”s and “:D”s has turned into a large selection of emojis, stickers, animations and other microcontent types.

Initially, expressive microcontent started out as a sort of fun Easter egg for advanced mobile users. But in the last 5–8 years, just about everyone has learned to use emojis, stickers and gifs to express themselves. As a result, microcontent became a large (and important) industry worth billions of dollars. From Snapchat’s filters to Apple’s beautiful emojis, large companies have poured in tens of millions of dollars into helping consumers express themselves better.

One of the companies leading this movement is Mobigraph. The company was founded by 4 ex-Samsung India employees who saw the potential in emotive digital communications: Sujith Kumar, Uday Kadirvel, Siddhartha Vinnakote and Subrahmanyam AS.

After that, Mobigraph launched its first product (QUGO) in 2015, and now have apps with advanced features like:

● Live 3D rendering
● Customizable 3D avatars
● GIFs based on custom 3D avatars
● AI-derived user emoticons
● AI-powered face detection

Mobigraph even beat apple to Animojis, giving users live 3D rendering long before iMessage got it. Thanks to this innovation and a few others, Mobigraph’s 2 live apps — Qugo and Xpresso — have over 650,000+ users, 100,000 of whom are monthly active users.

So Mobigraph has strong technological assets and a loyal fanbase. What the company wants to do now is use those assets to bring emotive microcontent to the next billion users — and to give render farmers, agencies, designers and consumers a way to make a little extra money.

We’ll tell you about Mobigraph and its previous successful projects in the next part. Stay tuned!
