Summary Reading Notes— Meta Religion as Human Singularity

Christopher Langdon is an American horse rancher and autodidact who has been reported to score very highly on IQ tests. In his Research paper, Metareligion as Human Singularity he examines the role of metareligion in obtaining a favorable outcome for the human species as it approaches a Singularity with both Human and Technological aspects.

The essential ideas as presented in his paper are as follows :-

Challenges dualistic account of Reality as posited by Descartes

1. Science and Religion put up on two ends of the spectrum

• Would destroy humanity — Dissociative and pathological
• Assumes that man has craved for knowledge of self-identification (Personal comment— Why Me? Fundamental since childhood )

2. Cartesian Dualism does not take into account of Mental and spiritual aspects of conscious subjects

• Religion is inconsistent with empirical and mathematical science
• Cartelism is exploited by Government, Corporate and Institutional leaders

3. Societies are control and communication feedback loops where tools are used to control citizens

4. Religion is also used as a tool to control citizens

Human Identity is monoistic — It cannot exist in two parts

The idea of Naturalism or Atheism is implausible

1. Excludes human identity from reality by taking away the spiritual imperative of coherent self-identification

2. The function of Religion is to describe a verifiable basis of Hope. ( Personal Note — Also relate — Aristotle’s idea of Hope as the intrinsic end of Religion )

3. Defines Singularity — ( Personal Note — Relate with Karl Friston’s Free Energy principle )

4. A system must undergo Directional Break

5. Human Singularity — Divine Spiritual Unification ( Personal Note — Relate with Girard’s idea of Human Divinization +Albert Camus’s Stranger + Dostoevsky’s Brothers of Kamarazov )

• Argues in favour of Human Singularity
• Argues in favour of Tech Singularity — Momentum in favour of Tech Singularity — Production, distribution and application of technology to prevent unlimited oligarchical abuse.

Solution — Meta Religion — Single religion

1. Combine Kant and Idea of Dharma — Essentially saying the same thing ; (Personal Note — Find more examples — Read Jordan Peterson’s Maps of Meanings)

2. Religious Metalanguage must be scientific in bearing.

• Use the tool of logic
• Problem — Logic itself is dualistic — Empirical confirmations required (Personal Comment —Read Philosophical idea of Representational and other Truths )
• We need a powerful formulation of logic that comprises of a common language for both Science and Religion.
• Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe ( “CTMU” ) — A Metaphysical formulation of logic — Capable of validating certain religious claims of truth and consistency.
