I am excited to announce that Percy has been acquired by BrowserStack, the world’s leading web and mobile app testing platform.

Quick summary

  • Percy is now part of BrowserStack
  • Nothing changes for our existing customers and users — you can look forward to new features and capabilities
  • This acquisition will unlock many new opportunities for Percy to expand and grow, especially with BrowserStack’s infrastructure

Big thanks to you, our customers and users, for your passion for visual testing and your trust in Percy, which has helped us reach this giant milestone. As part of BrowserStack, I’m excited about making Percy even more powerful and continuing to serve our mission—to enable teams to ship products faster with confidence in every visual change.

When I first started building Percy over five years ago, I honestly had no idea where it would go. What I was sure about, though, was that it was a problem I was genuinely interested in solving, and I just wanted to build it.

Fast forward to today, and we have both a product and a team that I am super proud of, passionate users and customers who love Percy, and most importantly, we have successfully made the previously-obscure phrase “visual testing” commonplace in the tech industry and across developer communities. Achieving this was no small feat, and I’m thrilled that Percy has played a pivotal role in making that happen.

What’s next

I am excited about all the opportunities that this acquisition will unlock. BrowserStack has spent over nine years building a platform that enables millions of developers and QA engineers worldwide to test across thousands of browsers and devices at scale. Similarly, Percy has spent the last five years focusing on a new category of testing — one that sits at the intersection of design, development, and deployment, with a significant overlap with browser automation and developer workflows.

Though our paths have been adjacent until now, our capabilities fit perfectly together to create a comprehensive testing experience for users.

Percy has invested heavily in the intricacies of visual testing and embedded deeply and easily in the workflows of thousands of developers. Being part of the BrowserStack platform will open many doors for expanding visual testing to a much wider range of testing environments.

On the personal front, I will continue to lead Percy as Director of Product for Visual Testing. I’m very excited about this role and the changes it brings.

It seems like every founder’s acquisition post ends up with this statement at some point, so I’ll get it out of the way — it’s hard to build and run a startup! Though my focus was always the product and team, as co-founder a lot of my time and energy were also spent managing day-to-day business activities. With this acquisition I am happy to be able to get back to my roots in product and engineering.

Thank you

I get to be the public face of this change, but we would never have gotten this far or created this powerful new product without the tireless work of the entire Percy team. I want to thank you for all the hard work, passion, and the empathy that you bring to work each day. A special thanks for riding the many rollercoasters of change during the shared tough times that the world is going through right now. I’m thankful to be able to work with each one of you.

And finally, a big thanks to all our users and customers for your continued support and belief in us. You give us the energy behind everything we do and we will be looking forward to your feedback on how to continue to make Percy better and better.
