Code review is a back-and-forth, collaborative process.

Questions get asked, tweaks are made, and discussion ensues. We’ve seen that the team discussions emerging from getting visual feedback are a huge part of code review collaboration.

That’s why we’re thrilled to help teams manage and streamline those discussions with our newest feature, snapshot comments.

It’s now easier than ever to communicate and collaborate however you want directly from Percy:

  • Provide context for visual UI updates 💁‍♂️
  • Ask about design implementations 🤔
  • Request UI changes to be made 🙅‍♀️
  • Give shout-outs for your team’s awesome work 🎉

Head over to Percy to start collaborating with your team! All Percy users now have access to comments and email notifications.

Adding and replying to comments

Select the comment icon in the snapshot header to add a comment and start a new comment thread.

You can add multiple comments to snapshots, reply to comments, @mention teammates, and of course, use emojis!

As you comment on snapshots, keep in mind that they will be carried forward on those snapshots for the life of the branch until they are “Resolved” or “Archived.”

Email notifications for comments

By default, you’ll receive email notifications when you’re @mentioned in comments and when comments are added to snapshots you have an open thread on.

You can update your notification preferences in your profile settings.

Requesting changes

“Requesting changes” is a great way to notify your team when unintended visual changes are detected during visual reviews, and collaborate on implementing fixes. Just select the “Request changes” checkbox when starting a new comment thread.

When someone tries to approve a snapshot or a build with unresolved comments requesting changes, a pop-up dialog will appear.

You can always override the dialog to approve the build or snapshot by clicking “Continue.”

Check out our docs to get more in-depth info about snapshot comments.

We’re so excited to provide teams with a place to communicate and collaborate on visual reviews.

Along with our recently launched support for Slack, comments make it easier for teams to keep track of visual changes and ship with complete confidence in their UI.

Stay tuned as we add support for additional visual change management features and notifications. As always, we welcome your thoughts and feedback — drop us a line at support@percy.io.
