Feminism. A fundamental movement that can be so controversial. Essentially, feminism is the movement that strives for gender equality in all fields of life. It’s just that simple. So why do many people hesitate to call themselves feminists? I remember asking my male friend if he was a feminist. He said that he wouldn’t call himself that. I then asked him if he wanted gender equality. He said that he did. I then asked my female friend the same question. She said that she wasn’t really a feminist, but wanted gender equality.

People have developed this fallacy that feminists are ‘man-haters’. And while there may be some extremists, the same can be said for any other movement, political or social. Regardless, people are losing the true essence of feminism. Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. And while it started as a movement for equality between men and women, it stands for equality of all genders on the gender spectrum. If you want equality of genders, then you are a feminist. It is just that simple.
