Ariana Grande’s new single has been met with a lot of reactions online and has stirred curiosity and interest from folks who were unfamiliar with her music. Comments about the single ranged from feminist to blasphemous and too much nudity. All these comments went to describing her new song: God Is a Woman.

Personally, I believe the song is a real work of art.
I absolutely love the song’s focus on female empowerment and liberation. And don’t even get me started on the beautiful cinematography of the song’s music video.

Scenes from the song tried to recreate famous art pieces and monuments and packed them with feminist imagery. Ariana even recreated Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam at the end of the song.

Grande even showcases a scene where she lies at the center of a yonic O’Keefe-like image.

The best part of the song, however, has to be in the scene where Grande sits towering above a group of angry men lashing and throwing all sorts of derogatory insults at her but the insults literally bounce off of her.

Now I do not in any way suggest that God is a woman, and neither do I suggest that he is a man. That answer is beyond me. But just a thought: if I am created in God’s image and I am a woman…then doesn’t that make God a woman to me and a man to you if you identify as male?

Nevertheless, I do not wish to delve deeper into religion as I believe Grande’s song did not wish to do so either. It is simply an artistic creative feminist feat and I believe it should be treated as so.

Enough about me…have you heard the song?
What are your thoughts?

Feel free to comment below and share your opinion of the song; feminist or not?
