A few days ago on Busy Philipps’s new show, Busy Tonight, the American actress explained why she doesn’t use menstrual cups anymore. “I went to grab it and there was something that was suctioned to the wrong part of me,” she said, explaining the very odd feeling of something pulling on your insides, which caused her to pass out on the toilet. We hope that she’s doing better and is willing to turn back to these sustainable products.

A few days ago, Tampax has announced plans to release a tampon that screams when it’s ready to be changed. We suppose that it’s intended to solve the problem of leakage if you leave it in for too long, but we’re not so sure how its supposed to work. According to Redbrick, it could also help prevent toxic shock syndrome, a rare, life-threatening complication of certain bacterial infections, usually found in the bodies of menstruators who use tampons.

A few weeks ago, students in Medical Council of Canada had to declare menstrual products they brought into the daylong exams. Students were enraged and took it to Twitter to rant, using the hashtag, #TamponGate. The council have tried to defend themselves by stating that it was unclear in their policy, but that didn’t stop Twitter from expressing their opinions. @sarahtulkmd on Twitter says, “Night before the exam men can focus on the exam.. women are brainstorming how to avoid bleeding through their clothes.”

Seattle lawmakers consider sales tax exemption for feminine hygiene products

A huge step for the fight against the tampon tax is going underway. In many states across the country, menstrual hygiene products are still taxed because they are “luxury items,” as opposed to Viagra pills and hair loss products. Well, Seattle lawmakers proposed this idea during a budget session and was not formally voted on. According to Komo News, “Seattle’s sales tax is 10.1%, of that, 6.5% of the money collected goes to the state while 3.6% goes to the City of Seattle.” Though it’s a small step, its a way lawmakers are help pushing forward the Menstrual Movement. .
