Our journey thus far, and what’s ahead.

It’s time for us to share the roadmap for 2019 and 2020 with a quick recap of what we’ve been up to.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the last 1.5 years of development but we’re finally at a point where our public testnet is live, some of our trade applications gaining traction and code repositories with over 1000 stars. We’re extremely proud of our achievements to date and now we want to share all of it with you.

Wavelet forging a path in the crypto wilderness

Our Journey thus far

After the release of our initial whitepaper explaining an Avalanche Consensus implementation for a ledger, we were quick to implement and have a working prototype. Our release for the testnet occurred in November 2018 where we presented the client at the Global Brains Conference in Tokyo, Japan. We also presented our prototype for the Perlin decentralised cloud computing system which was running a few artificial intelligence (AI) models.

A big change occurred with two main catalysts and though we still have an internal focus on cloud computing, we discovered new opportunities.

(1) Kenta and our development team realised that Avalanche was an incomplete solution and couldn’t deal with the type of workload that we demanded from a distributed ledger. Thus began a new research topic for our team to endeavour surrounding consensus mechanisms.

The Wavelet Testnet

(2) Dorjee and the business development team was able to identify key areas in the trade areas that were extremely inefficient and needed a distributed ledger for the security, transparency and efficiency that came along with it. Trade for thousands of years required trust and as globalisation took hold — trust was facilitated through banks and shipping agents. After talking to dozens of stakeholders, companies — we decided this was an opportunity and problem we wanted to tackle.

What ensued next was an amazing feat of engineering, product development and hard work. Kenta and the team were able to develop a new consensus mechanism called Wavelet whilst another division in the team started building several trade applications such as Clarify, Certify and others.

By March 2019, the team had finalised the consensus mechanism and begun building/finalising the testnet for a public launch. At the same time, our new partnerships with the International Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise Singapore, Indian Government, Telkom Indonesia and several others allowed us to grow and solidify our trade offering.

Now, after all that, we are currently at a point where Wavelet Public Testnet is live for people to try along with all the tools we created that allows Wavelet to run such as Lens, Noise and Life. We also have a working pilot with Asia Pacific Rayon where they can trace all their rayon bales from source to bale which can be viewed here.

In the upcoming weeks, we will also have a personal blockchain application known as Clarify Personal to allow users to place their items on the blockchain as a tracing & verifiable ownership mechanism.

What’s Next?

Our main focus for the rest of the year is to get our Mainnet implementation of Wavelet ready to go so we can get it to developers as soon as possible. For those who have already built on Wavelet, we love your work so far; they look fantastic!

The goal is to have a second version of the testnet ready for September where you can all join the testnet as staking nodes which will allow you to see how much you can earn when you run a Wavelet client. It will also give us a good opportunity to run a larger scale network, test out some economic incentive strategies, and get valuable feedback from the community.

After the second version and a few security audits, we have scheduled the mainnet release for early in the new year so we can go into 2020 with a bang! Along with the mainnet release we aim to have an International Trade toolkit ready for companies/trade applications who want to leverage Wavelet extremely easily. We believe trade and commerce will be the biggest area for innovation for the DLT space and we want to empower the next generation of companies in that space. 2020 will be the year where we capitalise on all the partners and global network via building many more application layer services internally and externally with companies.

It’s time for a new blockchain. It’s time for a new type of international trade.

Perlin is planning to pioneer both.

The roadmap for 2019–2020.

Catch you all later!
Ajay
