Knights of Guinevere and the Hijacking of Myths

What does it mean when the damsel can’t rescue herself?

When the Knights of Guinevere pilot premiered on Friday, September 19, viewers immediately saw the Disney potshots. Creator Dana Terrace mentioned in an interview that she came up with the idea when she was “angry”. Given how Disney executives treated her show The Owl House and admitted they had no idea how popular it was until they reduced season three to three specials, it’s not hard to do the math.

On Park Planet, Princess Guinevere serves as the benevolent face and mascot. Those who live on Park Planet or work for its giant corporation know better; the big company overworks its employees, while those on the ground barely scrape by for a daily existence. Scarce resources mean that those same bigwigs pay for scrap metal that scavengers find in boats.

Two women, Frankie and Andy, find a Gwen android and become determined to fix her. They convince Frankie’s scrap metal boss that Gwen will be worth ten ships when she’s intact versus one ship for Frankie as a metal heap. The journey to fix Gwen, however, seems to uncover a conspiracy that has robot enforcers chasing them. Though Gwen can help them at the risk of shorting out, the question is how they can save Gwen from her captors. More importantly, how will Gwen save…
