The breather episodes have ended. With The Owl House nearing the end and paying homage to its anime and cartoon predecessors. A person could not be more thankful for the journey. We take a break from the Owl House residents, all split up, to return to Hexside. What can a witch school do in the face of the apocalypse?

“Broken Trust” is the theme of this episode. Hunter is dealing with the aftermath of the realization that Belos doesn’t love him and tried to kill him. Gus has trauma from a lifetime of bullying and being used or tricked. Meanwhile, Amity’s hamfisted attempts to win back Willow’s trust show a need for better communication and observation. Their common interest may be what Hexside needs to fend off the Emperor’s coven.

Labyrinth Runners

In a flashback, a young Gus does all the work in a group project in an illusion club. He overhears that his partner basically pretended to be friends with him to get the perfect grade. Apparently, it’s not the first time they exploited the “prodigy”. Gus sabotages the project out of spite, walks out on his partner, and suffers an illusion anxiety attack. Willow finds him, helps him calm down, and teaches him a breathing technique. Since she’s on a different track, Gus knows that she won’t use him.
